[buffers]

This section is used by the DP4 database manager in release 4.620 and 4.621. As of release 4.622 the [buffers] section itself is no longer used, but the entries listed here can be used in the [dp4srvr],[srv3],[reorgdb], and [dbcheck] sections to control I/O buffering for those programs.

The following entries may be specified in these sections:

• buffers
• bypass_cache
• lazy_delay
• lazy_threshold
• lazy_writes
• max_pending
• max_workers
• pagesize
• read_ahead
• reread_write
• tracksize

Make sure you test a range of applications when experimenting with these settings - a change which benefits one application can sometimes be counter productive in another. You may need to repeat tests several times, before you can be sure that a change is beneficial, because timings can be dramatically changed by factors over which you have little or no control, such as where files are located on the disk, and how fragmented they are. This is especially true when your test is updating the database.
