There are some settings in the DP4 configuration file which should not changed; only those described in this guide are suitable for adjustment.
See the Warning under How the DP4 configuration file is organised.
The DP4 configuration file is a text file. It can be read and edited using any text editor. Double-clicking on its icon in Windows will normally load it into NOTEPAD. From 4.621 DP4 includes a number of "HTML Applications", files with .HTA extensions that can help you make configuration changes of various types. At the time of writing there are applications for controlling DP4 error logging, and using the Skinnning facilities. It is likely that more of these will be available in the fairly near future.
Before making any changes to the DP4 configuration file, we recommend that you make a backup copy of the file in its present form and keep this in a safe place. If your changes have undesirable effects, you may find it easier and safer to delete the modified file and copy the backup to its original location than to remember and undo the changes you made.
If you choose to migrate the configuration file to the Windows Registry we recommend that you maintain your configuration in future by editing the text file and remigrating to the registry rather than using the Windows Registry Editor.
