hide_dead_chrome

[TRMW]
hide_dead_chrome=0

hide_dead_chrome=1 changes the behaviour of "prompt", "spinner", and "calendar" VCRs added to edit controls when the map containing them is "glued" to another map (usually when a list of records is displayed in a window or popup). It was introduced into 4.623 versions of trmw32.dll and trmwce.dll built on or after 21st May 2008). When this setting is enabled VCRs are hidden when a map is glued to another map. They will reappear if the map is subsequently used for editing.

This setting is intended to make using the same map for both editing and displaying a line of data work slightly better, and may be convenient for QAB developers. However, this is only a partial solution: you will not be able to put a frame around such edit controls (because if you do the appearance will still be odd), and the map used for editing won't have OK and Cancel buttons. Also, typically the prompt buttons will only be usable when inserting a new line of data (because they most likely are used by keyfields), so the user may be confused when editing an existing line. On the whole it is better to use separate maps for displaying a line of data in a popup and for editing the data when the line is selected.
