DP4 generates the import parameter set automatically provided that the export program used to generate the export file is on the same database.
To copy the export program from another database or system, follow the earlier instructions in Transferring Report Writer Programs Between Databases. If the export file is exported from a non-DP4 system, follow the later instructions in Setting Up Importer Programs to set up the import parameters manually.
Automatic Creation of Importer Programs is one of the utility options in IMPSETUP. To access this via the DP4 menu, select Import/Export and Reporting and then Importer Setup and Utilities, or for releases prior to 4.621 select Other facilities , then Importer facilities option and finally select the Setup and utilities option.
Enter the name of the target database. The Importer Facilities screen appears.
On the Edit menu, select option 2 - Automatic program generation. A screen appears showing all the Report Writer Export programs on the database.
An asterisk (*) after an export program name indicates that an import program already exists.
You can create an import program from these, as follows:
Import programs are created with the same names as the export programs, except that names that begin with "EXP" are changed to begin with "IMP".
DP4 displays the parameter and table names as the parameters are generated and you are returned to the Edit menu.
Press <Enter> to return to the DP4 System Main menu.
