Defining Field Groups

This screen willl appear only when you cleared the checkbox or answered no to the question "All lines of the same type" in the File Description dialog.It is only necessary to specify field groups when separate lines of the import file may contain a differing collections of fields.

1. On the Importer Program Editing menu, select option 2 - Line processing. A screen appears displaying the field groups available. Initially there are none.

2. Select the Identification option

3. Fill in the details on the Field Group Properties menu, for example:

   

   Click on the options in the illustration for further information

4. Having defined the tag field properties to your liking, press <Enter> to return to the Field groups available screen. There is no need to define the tag format, unless:

   • You specified a date or time type and must describe the format in which it is held in the import file
   • You specified a number type and it is held in the import file in other than string format
     
     

5. Repeat steps 2, 3 and 4 to define as many field groups as you have different groups of fields

   For each field group, select the Tables option and define the table fields to be imported, as described in the next section.
