Exporting Data to an ASCII File

This section describes how to export data to an ASCII file by running an export program created in the Report Writer.

  1. On the Report Writer Facilities menu, select the Run programs option.

  2. Enter the database name.

  3. Select the export program you wish to run. The output destination dialog is displayed.

  4. Fill in the dialog, specifying the name of the export file. This is normally EXP<NNNNN>.PRN, where <nnnnn> is the internal reference number of the table.

The export file is created in the 'Print files' directory, as specified in the location of files for your DP4 setup.

The data on the tables is written to the export file, and you are returned to the Report Writer Facilities menu.

Repeat the above steps until all the required data is exported.

If you want to keep the data in one file, specify the same name for the export file and append the data. You will, however, need to include a field group tag to identify the different groups of fields present in the export file. (See Understanding Field Groups for more information).
