Extracting Maps for Translation

In 4.6xx you use the Map Utilities (MAPMAKE) to print out a copy of the maps to be translated. In 4.621 MAPMAKE is accessible in the Screen and Form Utilities menu as Map Utilities.

1. When you have started MAPMAKE specify the database which contains the mapsets that you want to have translated.

2. If the mapset already has maps defined for more than one language, you may select which of these languages you want to use as the base for the translation by setting the language number to the required value. This can be done via the Select Language option on the initial MAPMAKE menu.

3. Select the maps to be extracted:

   • If you want to extract data for all mapsets in the database, choose the Print All Maps option.
   • If you wish to extract data for only one mapset, choose the Select Mapset option and then choose the Print Mapset option.
   • If you wish to extract data for only one map, choose the Select Mapset option and then choose the Select Map option and then choose the Print Map option.

4. In each case, the Map Printing dialog is didplayed. In the Print Format field, choose Translator Format.
   Enable the "Include Help Messages" option if you also want to translate the help messages.

5. The standard DP4 Print dialog appears. Select output to file and enter a suitable name for the file to contain the extracted maps.

The process of extracting maps for translation in 4.5xx is almost identical. However, instead of using MAPMAKE you use the 4.5xx release of MAPEDIT.
