Database maintenance is a key issue. It is important that you develop a rigorous approach to ensure that the database continues to perform at its optimum. However, DP4 does try to help you, regular back-up and integrity checking of the database throughout the development of DP4 applications or use of DP4 utilities is strictly enforced. Furthermore, security measures such as roll-forward and roll-back recovery, should enable you to recover the database in the event of a system crash. DP4 actively manages the database and will prompt you to perform an appropriate action, like a database reorganisation, whenever work done by you on the database demands this.
