Managing Importer Programs

This section tells you how to manage your Importer programs with the Importer setup utility. Among the management tasks are:

Testing Importer programs to assess the impact of database changes.
Moving Importer programs between databases.
Printing details of Importer programs.
Deleting Importer programs which are no longer required

All the Importer program management facilities are contain in the IMPSETUP program which can be accessed as follows:
- Select Import/Export and Reporting and then Importer Setup and Utilities, or for releases prior to 4.621 select Other facilities, then Importer facilities option and finally select the Setup and utilities option.
Enter the name of the target database. The Importer Setup screen appears.
Select the appopriate option from the Menu that is displayed.

Testing Importer Programs

After making changes to the database, use the Test menu to test Importer programs. Its options are as follows:

Option	Description
all programs	Validates the Importer program processing against the database. By removing any invalid processing from the Importer program, the validation process attempts to correct any problems that are found, such as: Changes of data type for fields Field length changes on the database Processing more occurrences of a field than exist Changes of a field's scale factor
Test selected programs	As for Test all programs, but on your selection of programs
Options	Selects validation options when testing programs

Option

Moving Importer Programs

The Move menu allows you to transfer Importer programs between databases. Its options are as follows:

Option	Description
Extract all programs	Extracts Importer programs from the database to an ASCII file, for transfer to another database
Extract selected programs	As for Extract all programs, but on your selection of programs
Post	Posts ASCII files created with either of the extract options to the database. The ASCII file is compiled during the posting and Importer programs are created on the database
Options	Selects options for error recovery during program compilation

Printing Importer Programs

The Print menu allows you to print out details of Importer programs. Its options are as follows:

Option	Description
Print all programs	Prints out details of Importer programs to an ASCII file
Print selected programs	As for Print all programs, but for your selection of programs
Options	Selects whether summary or detailed information, including details about the format of fields, is printed

Deleting Importer Programs

The Delete menu allows you to delete all or selected Importer programs from the database.
