Restoring the System Database

The system database cannot be restored from within the DP4 menu system because this application makes use of the system database.

The following procedure shows you how to restore the system database in Windows. In other operating systems, the procedure is more straightforward, in that you can run the DP4 utilities from the command line.

  1. The backup of the system database supplied by Itim Technology Solutions is called SYSTEM. If the SYSTEM database is called another name in your DP4 configuration, use the SYSDB utility to set the name to SYSTEM. For example, in Windows, select the Run option of the Start Menu or the Program Manager's File menu and type, for example:
    C:\DP4\WIN\SYSDB SYSTEM
When SYSDB terminates, stop the DP4 service.

  2. Use the Run option of the Start menu or the File menu to restore the system database, as in:

    C:\DP4\WIN\DBRESTOR -SYSTEM -DISK A:
where -DISK A: optionally specifies the drive that holds the backup. If you are installing from the DP4 CD-ROM you can specify the disk like this -DISK D:\616\WIN32\ , replacing the drive letter, version, and operating system as appropriate. Note the trailing back slash character. Alternatively you can rerun the DP4 Install program and choose to install just the system database.
