The Collate utility (COLLATE) provides two language definition facilities:
Lower to upper case conversion for U-type fields
Character data entered into a U-type (Upper case) field is automatically translated into upper case
Initally DP4 converts characters a..z to A..Z and no others. You can specify how additional characters are converted on a system. For example: üÜ éE âÂ.
This information is stored in USERDATA.SYS.
Collate sequence for U- and M-type fields
Characters in U-type (Upper case) and M-type (Mixed-case) fields are indexed in a default collate sequence, according to the ASCII values of their upper case equivalents.
You can specify an alternate index sequence for an application. For example, you may wish to make diacritical characters such as é and Ü appear next to their non-diacritical equivalents such as E and U in indexes and lists.
This information is stored in the database header.
