Testing your DP4 Printer Selection

Your printer selection is used for formatting all output from DP4 utilities and programs. This section tells you how to make sure you have the correct printer selection set up on your system. Skip this section if you have successfully printed from DP4 using your present configuration.

In the following steps, you are asked to run the DP4 Data Entry and Enquiry utility and print a record from the example SALESORD database.

  1. On the DP4 System Main menu, select the Other facilities option followed by the Database browser option

  2. Select the SALESORD database. The main screen of the Database browser is displayed

  3. From the menu bar, select the Table option. Enter the table name CUSTOMER, and press <Enter>. DP4 displays the first record in the sequence

  4. Select the Print option. DP4 displays the Output Devices menu. Enable output to a printer by clicking on the 'Printer' check box:

For the 'Print device' field, press <Ctrl+P> to pop up the Print devices list. This is the list of printers provided with the standard DP4 system:

Select the print device that most closely matches the printer attached to your system

  5. Press <Enter>, and DP4 outputs the record to your printer. Some printers require a page break code, and will only print the page when you exit the utility.

  6. On the Data entry and enquiry action bar, select the Exit option. Press <Esc> twice to return to the DP4 System Main menu

What if your printer does not appear in the output devices list? You can try out the alternative printer selections to see if these work with your printer. This may take some trial and error.
If the alternative printer selections do not work with your printer, follow the instructions in Configuring a Printer to tell DP4 about your printer. You will need to run the System configuration utility (option 1 on the Main menu), and have your printer manual to hand.
