Translating Extracted Maps

Using an editor program which can process plain text files, the translator should edit the file created by the procedure outlined in Extracting Maps for Translation, replacing each item of text in the initial language with text in the new language. The translator must be careful only to alter text in help messages or between quotes for controls, (or between lines of underscores in the acse of release 4.xx). The translator must be careful not to translate the keywords used by MAPPOST such as Static,Button,Edit etc. The translator should also beware of things like word-wrapping facilities which may cause lines to be split inappropriately.

At the start of the file is a line which begins #language. This will be emitted with the value unset or lang_not_set if you are using 4.5xx. This must be changed to be the number of the DP4 language for which the translation is being made.
Do not change the line marked #translation.

For example, if you are translating to French and it is defined as language 2, change #LANGUAGE as follows: #LANGUAGE 2

On posting, an error is generated if the value unset is left in the file

It may help the translator to have a documentation copy of the maps to hand. You can produce one of these by carrying out the earlier procedure Extracting Maps for Translation, but selecting Documentation instead of Translator format. This is likely to be especially useful in release 4.6xx
