Using Menu Commands

There are two types of menu action:

• Built-in menu commands

  You can use built-in Menu option commands to perform specific actions such as changing to another database, prompting the user to log on and changing the user preferences.

• Executable commands
  You can run any program including:

  • Your own DP4 application programs (implemented in QA Build, Report Writer, or a language such as C/C++).
  • Standard DP4 utilities such as database backup and recovery tools
  • Non-DP4 programs such as Word Processors

  You can add one or more of the built-in special command tails to affect how the programs are run (for example the %BATCH tail is needed to run batch files and shell scripts), and can supply ordinary command tails such as command line options and filenames.
