A list of the users of a system is held on the DP4 system database. The information relating to each user includes their password, access levels, language and user defaults.
Users are prompted to log on when they run the DP4 menu system. Alternative menu pages can be displayed that are tailored to the requirements of the user. You can also set up your application program to prompt the user to log on. The log on facility is useful for three reasons:
For controlling access to an application
To use the DP4 language switching facility
To allow the individual preferences for a user to take precedence over the system preferences
These are the details that are entered for each user:
| User Information | Description |
|---|---|
Password |
The user is prompted for a password when logging on to DP4. This consists of a word eight characters long |
Access levels |
The read and write access levels determine what tables and fields the user can view and update, and what programs the user can run |
Language |
The language selects the set of maps that are to be displayed for this user. This facility can be used to distinguish between a text for beginners and text for advanced users of a system, as well as between different national languages |
Menu page |
A special menu can be displayed for a user when the menu program is run |
