Networked System

A networked system consists of a server machine and several client workstations.

In a networked system, the database is held in one central location. Unlike a standalone system, each user can view and update the same set of information. Networks are essential for multi-user systems such as an airline booking system, where information on flight seat availability is shared data, accessed by all the users of a system.

The client/server architecture of DP4 means that applications developed with DP4 can be run in any network environment with no change.
