This document is written for database designers, developers and project managers who are new to DP4. It presents the concepts behind the DP4 system and introduces the terminology used throughout DP4 documentation.
The descriptions that follow assume that you already have some knowledge of database management systems. If you have used a database in the past, you have sufficient knowledge to start learning about DP4.
This document tells you about the functionality of DP4. It does not tell you how to use the product. Other documents are available which tell you how to install and upgrade your DP4 systems and how to use the features described in this document. An up-to-date list of DP4 documentation is available from Itim Technology Solutions Technical Support.
An example database called SALESORD based on a Sales Order entry application is used throughout this document. This application exists as a DP4 database and programs. If you want to find out more about the examples, consult the appropriate DP4 product document.
