Adding Help

You can add help messages to any controls in the map. The map editor contains a help editor which treats help messages like other maps. You may place the following controls in help messages:

• text
• bitmaps
• icons
• group boxes
• lines

To activate the help editor:

1. Ensure that the map, including the currently selected control (for which the help message is being created) has been saved (so that it is known to the database)
2. Ensure that the selected control for which you want to create help has a field number other than 0. If two controls have the same field number, they must share the same help message, but you can also share help messages beween controls with different field numbers or even on different maps where this is appropriate (though this currently requires you to use MAPPOST).
3. To activate the help editor, select the control you want to create help for, and then choose the Help Editor option in the Edit menu (or just press <F9>). This opens the map for the help message.

Then follow the same procedures as you would when editing other maps to creating the help message. Simple help messages can be created using just the Help Details dialog (this replaces the Map Properties Dialog in the Edit menu), which you can start by pressing <F3>.
