Formatting Characters

The Data dialog for database character fields contains the following fields:

Use default values

Enable this to accept the default formatting values for the field. These are derived from the user preferences

Start with capital

Enable this to convert the first letter entered into the field to upper case automatically. This is convenient when typing in names, but you should not rely on this because the user can enter a lower case first letter by deleting the first character later on.

Overtype mode

Normally the existing contents of a field are all selected when it gets focus, which means that the contents of the field are cleared as soon as the user starts to type, unless the user cacncels the selection (for example by pressing Cursor keys). If you enable overtype mode the existing data is not selected.

Password mode

If password mode is enabled then data displayed or edited is echoed as * characters.

Default value

For non-database fields, enter the text to offer as a default for field entry
