Opening a Mapset

This is a useful option because it allows you to preview all the maps in a mapset before choosing the one on which one you want to work or performing an action on the whole set of maps.

To open a mapset:

1. Select Open Mapset from the File menu or (from 4.622) press Ctrl+M. The Open Mapset dialog appears:

   

2. Fill in the dialog, specifying the database, mapset, language, and, optionally, the map number, then click OK. (You can specify new or existing values for the mapset and map number). A two part Map Editing window appears, showing the map numbers used in the mapset on the left and one of the maps on the right:

   

   If you did not specify the map number, the first map in the mapset is displayed.

• To choose a map to edit, click the list and use the cursor keys for browsing. When the correct map is displayed, you can edit it.
• To work on another map, click its number in the list. You will be asked whether you want to save any work done on the active map.
• To create a new map, click the number enclosed in angle brackets (<>) at the bottom of the list. An empty map appears, ready for editing. If you want to use a different map number for a new map, use the "Save Copy As" option to save the map or use the File menu New Map option.
• If you choose one of the options in the file menu it will default to using the currently active map in the dialog, so this is a good way for selecting a map to be copied or deleted.

You can open the same mapset more than once. If you do this be careful only to edit each map in any one window. The mapset windows are only synchronised when changes are saved.
