Boxes and Control Strings

The Boxes and Control Strings Dialog sets up two distinct types of information:

• It sets up the basic control strings used by the printer: initialisation and termination sequences for when the printer is first accessed and finally released, and line termination (Carriage Return) and page termination (form feed) sequences. For most printers the default sequences work well.

• The second part of the dialog sets up the characters that will be used to translate DP4 box characters. You have four choices:

  • You can remove all box characters from maps by translating them all to spaces (20h)
  • You can represent boxes using a selection of standard ASCII characters + (2bh), - (2dh) and | (7ch)
  • You can use the IBM MS-DOS box characters, if your printer understands them. Most printers that can be printed to from MS-DOS programs will do. These are shown below:

  • Your printer may have some other range of characters reserved as box characters. Consult your printer documentation.

After changing box characters you may like to use the Test control strings option. Exit from the Device Group Editing menu to return to the menu containing this option.
