Database Opening Options

Your database can be opened with three options:

• Exclusive access to the database
• Read-only mode
• Private Database access

Exclusive Access

Exclusive access may be required in a multi-user system. This prevents any other user from opening the database. All programs accessing the database must be terminated before an exclusive access program will successfully load.

To set up exclusive access specify exclusive access in the Program Summary.

Read-Only Access

The database is opened in read-only mode by the Enquiry and Report program types:

• Enquiry programs allow the user to see the records and perform record enquiries without updating the database
• Report programs allow the user to print out records from the database, perform calculations and print results, usually with little user interation.
