Function Key Area Map

If the user can select an action using function keys, you may wish to provide some text to indicate the function keys available. This may be placed on the main map or provided as a help message. You may, however, define a function key area map. This is simply one or more lines of text which explain what the function keys do at the current point in the program.

Function key area maps have the following characteristics:

You use the function key area map to display the options available:

<F1> Help <F2> Print Report <Esc> Exit

You might have a more complex set of options which require two or more lines of text.

To change the position of the function key area map:

  1. Add a screen layout map to your program (or edit the existing one)
  2. Add field 101 where the top left corner of the function key area map is to appear

By default, the function key area map is turned on and off using the <Ctrl> <Shift> and <Minus> keys, or using <Shift> and <F1> if you are running DP4 using the SAA option.

To change the default key:

  1. Run DFSETUP and select Keyboard customisation
  2. Change the <Dis> key (this is the function key area display key)
