Operating system has denied write access to the database. Requests to update the database will be ignored.
This warning is produced when a database is opened if the operating system allows the database files to be opened in read-only mode, but not for writing. The original intention behing this warning was to allow archived databases to be accessed from CDs or similar read-only media using regular DP4 application programs. However, in recent versions of Windows problems with anti-virus software, group or other security policies, and so on, can sometimes cause a database stored on a regular hard-drive to encounter this condition. In the case where the application handles important data (e.g. financial transactions), but is used by unskilled operators, it is best to treat this warning as an error. The easiest way to do this is to use the new allow_archive_mode=0 setting, available in 4.625. This enhancement to dp4srvr.w32 is compatible with 4.624.
