Automatic Program Generation

You can use this facility to generate simple Report Writer programs automatically.

To use this facility:

1. Run REPSETUP as described in Loading Repsetup_from the DP4System Menu, specifying the database you wish to use.

2. Select the Edit menu and choose option 2 - Automatic program generation. The following screen appears:

   

   This screen presents you with a series of questions about the program you wish to generate. Wherever possible, Report Writer provides default answers and help messages are available throughout. For further information on each of the questions, click on the appropriate section of the illustration above.

3. When you have finished answering the questions, click on OK. You are then shown a list of the tables on the database, unless you answered 'Yes' to the question "Create programs for all tables?".

4. Select the tables for which you want to generate programs using the cursor keys or the <space> key to position the highlight over tables and then pressing <Enter>. Selected items are indicated by an asterisk. Pressing <Enter> on a selected table deselects it. When you have finished, press <Tab> to confirm your selection. To cancel, press <Esc>. Report Writer shows you a list of the tables you have selected and displays a message saying that it is posting the programs.

5. To print your reports or export files, use REPRINT, as described in Printing a Report
