How The Manual is Organised

This manual is divided into the following sections:

• Introduction to Report Writer

  Discusses Report Writer terms that you should familiarise yourself with, summarises the facilities of Report Writer and describes how to use its interface

• Creating a Report Program

  Takes you through the steps necessary to create a Report Writer program. These include loading REPSETUP from the System menus, running the automatic report-generation facility, and using the report editing options of REPSETUP to build reports that exactly match your requirements

• Conditions and Formulas

  Describes how to construct formulas, which are used in Report Writer to determine the value of user-defined fields and to specify conditions for totalling fields and extracting records

• Printing a Report (REPPRINT)

  Describes how to use REPPRINT to output a report or export file, and to run a deletion

• Managing Report Writer Programs

  Tells you how to manage your Report Writer programs with REPSETUP. Among the management tasks are: testing Report Writer programs to assess the impact of database changes and optionally modify the report; moving programs between databases; printing details of programs; deleting programs that are no longer required

• Error Control and Error Reports

  Describes what some of the common error messages mean including, Join error, Divide by zero error, Insufficient field size, and Insufficient space
