When you have created a program, you might want to transfer it to another database or rename it. To do either of these, run REPSETUP and then open the Move menu.
You can move either all the programs in the database or just a selection.
Moving is made up of two actions:
Extracting the program to a program file
Posting the program file to a new location
To move all the programs, select option 1 - Extract all programs
To move selected programs, select option 2 - Extract selected programs. You are then asked which program you wish to move. Press <Ctrl+P> to call up a list of available programs.
You are asked about the output device(s) you wish to use:
You can ask for the output to go to the screen, a printer or a file. If you choose to print the output, you need to specify in the Print device field the device whose characteristics you want to use for printing or formatting the print file. In the Output file field, you need to give the print file a name. Report Writer supplies the default file extension .PAR, but you can change this if you wish.
When you have extracted a program, it is in ASCII format. You must post it to its new location - see Posting a Program File below.
To rename a program, select option 3 - Rename programs from the Move menu.
You are asked which program you wish to rename. Press <Ctrl+P> to call up a list of available programs. You are then asked what the new name is to be.
Posting is the second half of the move operation. When you have extracted a file, you need to post it to its new location.
To post a file, first make sure that you have selected the database to which you wish to post the program. If you have only just extracted the program, this involves coming out of REPSETUP and then going back into another database.
Once you are in the database, run REPSETUP and open the Move menu. Then select option 4 - Post program file. You are asked to specify which file you want to post. Press <Ctrl+P> to call up a list of available files.
The file appears on screen as it is posted and you are returned to the Move menu when the posting is completed.
Option 7 - Options from the Move menu allows you to specify how you want Report Writer to deal with errors during program posting.
You are asked a series of questions, as described in the following sections.
Answer 'Yes' if you would like to be prompted for the action to be taken by Report Writer whenever a problem is encountered during posting.
Answer 'Yes' to suppress the display of the file being posted. This speeds up the posting process, but if errors are encountered it is harder to see what is wrong.
