This part of the manual describes how to and use the DP4 DDE interface for Windows. This product allows third-party applications that support the DDE standard to access DP4 databases. The main difference between the DDE and ODBC standards, apart from the former somewhat predating the latter, is that the data is dynamically linked. This means that when the data changes on the DP4 database the linked representation of it in the client application is updated.
This product is considered to be obsolete, and is no longer officially supported.
DP4 for Windows 3.x must be installed and operational, as described by the Windows installation guide. The DP4 SQL for Windows 3.1 product must also be installed.
The DP4 DDE Interface is supplied and installed as part of the SQL for Windows 3.1 product on the DP4 CD ROM as described in Installing DP4 SQL.
For a typical example of this product's use see Linking to DP4 from Microsoft Excel.
