Using Microsoft Access from within Excel
Running Microsoft Access from within Excel allows you to update
tables on DP4 data sources. There are two approaches:
- You can enable the Microsoft tool bar, which provides an icon
for starting Microsoft Access
- You can use the Object Packager to create an icon in the
spreadsheet that runs Microsoft Access and opens a specified
database
Enabling the Microsoft Tool Bar
To enable the Microsoft tool bar, select Toolbars from the View
menu and enable the Windows checkbox in the Toolbars dialog.
Using the Object Packager
To create an icon in the spreadsheet for a Microsoft Access
database:
- Click a cell where you want the icon
- Select Object from the Insert menu
- In the Object dialog, click Create from File
- Use the File dialog to select the Microsoft Access database
(*.mdb) with linked tables from the DP4 data source, and click
OK
You are returned to the spreadsheet which should now contain the
Microsoft Access icon. Try double-clicking it.
The sample salesord.xls worksheet supplied contains an icon for
