Installing DP4 for Windows : Requirements

Supported Versions of Windows

32-bit Windows versions

Windows 95 or Windows NT 4 (or later) must be installed and running on your machine. 32-bit DP4 does not run on Windows 3.x, and version 4.616 onwards do not run Windows NT 3.5 or earlier. We no longer test DP4 on any version of Windows prior to Windows 2000. However, release 4.622 was tested on Windows NT 4 and Windows 9x machines, and so far as we know the latest release (4.624) would also run.

64-bit Windows versions

If you are running a 64-bit version of Windows then you must install DP4 4.624 or a later release. You can install either the 32-bit or the 64-bit release of DP4. As yet DP4 has only been tested on Windows 2008, but should work equally well on Windows 2003. We are not sure about Windows XP 64-bit edition

Disk Space Required

• Approximately 10 Mbytes of disk space are required to install the 32-bit Base DP4 System, which comprises the DP4 programs plus System and Base Dictionary databases. The 64-bit version of DP4 requires around 13 Mbytes. On the disk where DP4 databases are to be stored you should aim to have a disk with sufficient space to hold at least 3 copies of the largest database you plan to work with.

Web Browser

• To access the DP4 help files you need to have Microsoft Internet Explorer 5 or later installed. All the help files are available on the DP4 web site and work with any standards compliant web browser.
