Interact with the Itim DP4 Web Site

By alunw @ 02:44p.m. GMT

The DP4 Web Site is now interactive. I shall be posting news about changes to the site regularly on this page, and invite regular users of the site to acquire their own log-in to post their own articles and comments about DP4. You can write documents online. This is similar to editing in a forum or web mail program. [more...]

Minor Enhancements

By alunw @ 03:33p.m. GMT
No Comments: Review
The 4.623 Beta now incorporates minor enhancements to AUDITOR and QABUTIL.

In AUDITOR you can now access a log file of a database while it is being updated. This is enabled by running AUDITOR with the -live command tail.

In QABUTIL the find options that display formulas now display the formulas in a window of four results, rather than one at a time.

Release 4.623

By alunw @ 11:58a.m. GMT
No Comments: Review
Although release 4.623 is available in Beta, and will continue to be updated from time to time, and is being used as the release upon which future deployments of Chameleon will be based, I do not currently plan to make it the official current DP4 release, which will remain 4.622 for at least the next several months.

There is one major item of DP4 development ongoing at the moment - I am working on developing a native OLE DB interface for DP4. This is likely to take several months to complete due to the complexity of the task. It is possible that the final product will also include an updated ODBC implementation, along the lines of the combined OLE DB/ODBC client implemented for Microsoft SQL Server.

Branding Change

By alunw @ 06:15p.m. GMT
No Comments: Review
As the "Technology Solutions" part of our name is rather a mouthful we have rebranded ourselves simply as Itim. This won't impact DP4, except that the familiar blue diamond icon has undergone a makeover and will now be more of a greenish blue (and will be in 3D into the bargain). Our main web site is now at www.itim.com

I will shortly be maing a new 4.623 Beta available with the new branding. This has some quite exciting user interface enhancements. In particular you will be able to incorporate web browser functionality directly into DP4 maps. More details soon...

Revised 4.622 incorporating previous 4.623 Beta files.

By alunw @ 03:21p.m. GMT
No Comments: Review
Following a number of important recent fixes to 4.622 I have decided to also include the various enhancements originally available only in the 4.623 Beta. As the two downloads were still virtually identical, and there are no compatibility issued, there seemed little point in maintaining two separate new releases, at this stage.

A 4.623 Beta will be re-instated later.

Dynaback

By alunw @ 05:58p.m. GMT
No Comments: Review
The 4.623 Beta contains an updated version of DYNABACK with comfort output during the phase of DYNABACK -COPY which applies the rollback and transaction log. Also additional file buffering is performed in this phase which should improve performance somewhat.

The link below may be helpful if you would like to be able to take advantage of recent new features of REORGDB or DBCHECK but are still using 4.621 or an older DP4 release.

Enhanced DBCHECK

By alunw @ 01:27p.m. GMT
No Comments: Review
The 4.623/4.527 Beta download now incorporates an important enhancement to DBCHECK: when you specify the command tail -full dbcheck performs additional checks on the consistency of the index. These checks are more or less equivalent to the checks performed by dynachek. Although this makes dbcheck take somewhat longer to run, you are recommended to use this command tail when checking the intergrity of a live database. dynaback and dbbackup -copy have been updated to use this new option. For further details see http://www.itimdp4.com/manpages/DP4Dev/Checking_the_Database_Integrity.htm#full
